I have spent fifty years
working in photography, managing various successful specialist retail
photographic stores. During that time I have seen
photographic cameras progress from the Kodak Brownie 127 and
box cameras to the very technically advanced Digital ones of
today. I watched as the 35mm cameras developed from basic
manuals through to sophisticated automatics, and single lens
reflexes (SLR) which back in 1962 were selling for £150.00,
(when a good weekly wage was £20 what’s that worth in
today’s money?) and they were only manual focus and exposure
to today’s SLR film cameras which should you still want to
use film, and many people do you can buy a quality camera
with all the automatics and manual overrides for less than
£150.00.
Today’s
Digital cameras are easy to use, lots of automatic features
which makes picture taking simply a matter of pressing a
button, but the difference between a “snap” and a photograph
is vast. Its easy to show someone a picture of your child but
when you want a good photograph, one to enlarge and hang on the
wall we are prepared to pay a professional so why not learn
even just the basics and produce better pictures.
For the last five years, since
retiring (sic) I have taught many new users how to make the
most of their camera, to understand how using the correct
shutter speeds or apertures will improve your picture
taking.
We now run 1 week residential
courses in Spain teaching the basics of camera use and
photography, interested click
